Training in Compassion helps to enhance physical, emotional and relational health & wellbeing.
The course was developed by Erik van den Brink and Frits Koster, and includes a combination of teaching, practices, self-reflection and sharing with fellow participants.
It is grounded in science and integrates work of Paul Gilbert (Compassion Focused Therapy) and Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer (Mindful Self-Compassion) as well as elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Positive Psychology, teachings of Tara Brach, and traditional Buddhist meditation practices which focus on the cultivation of compassion.
The MBCL programme is suitable as an advanced course after having followed an 8-week mindfulness course (Breathworks, MBSR, MBCT or equivalent).
It consists of eight weekly sessions of 2 hours plus a half-day of silent practice (between sessions six and seven).
The training can be particularly supportive for people suffering from self-criticism and shame, social isolation, depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic pain or illness. It can be helpful to anyone – care-seeker or care-giver – wishing to deepen mindfulness with ‘heartfulness’.
